Originally founded as a workshop in London in 1989, it developed over the years to become one of the two major conferences of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) in wireless communications and networking, attracting technical communities from all regions and continents. Following a successful 2019 edition in Türkiye, the 2025 edition returns to İstanbul and will be held face-to-face.
